Norden House Launches ‘Tour the World’ Programme with Special Visit from Zimbabwean Chief

Residents at Norden House Care Home recently enjoyed a special celebration to mark the launch of the home’s new ‘Tour the World’ activity programme, welcoming Chief Mbusi Bhekithemba Dakamela from Zimbabwe.

The new initiative has been created to give residents the opportunity to experience different countries and cultures through food, music, stories and shared experiences, all from the comfort of the care home.

To launch the programme, Chief Dakamela, a traditional leader from the KoDakamela area in Nkayi District, Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe, spent time with residents and staff, sharing stories about his home and culture.

The day also featured a selection of traditional Zimbabwean dishes prepared by team members Agnes and Sizile, alongside a display of photographs celebrating Zimbabwean life and heritage. Residents enjoyed learning about the country, asking questions and trying something new together.

Ellaine Navarro, Care Home Manager at Norden House, said:

“We want life at Norden House to be about more than just day-to-day care. Activities like this give residents the chance to learn something new, share conversations and enjoy different experiences together. It was a real pleasure to welcome Chief Dakamela and we’re very grateful to Agnes and Sizile for helping us bring a little bit of Zimbabwe into our home.”

The ‘Tour the World’ programme is one of the many activities organised at Norden House to support residents’ wellbeing, encourage social interaction and create meaningful experiences. Future events will explore a range of countries and cultures, with residents helping to choose where they ‘travel’ next.

Norden House regularly welcomes local groups, volunteers and visitors into the home and is always keen to build links with the community. Anyone interested in finding out more about life at the home or getting involved in future events is encouraged to get in touch.

The visit from Chief Dakamela was a wonderful start to the new programme and left residents looking forward to the next destination on their journey around the world.
