New Activities Programme at Norden House Brings Community and Connection for People with Dementia
At Norden House, we are passionate about creating opportunities for out residents to stay active, engaged and connected to the world around them. Our new activities programme has been designed with this in mind, blending meaningful community outings with events and experiences here at the home to ensure every resident feels empowered to continue living a full and satisfying life.
Recently, our residents enjoyed a trip to Ferring Country Centre, spending a wonderful day at Dales Farm and exploring a local aquatics centre, These outings are about more than just a change of scenery, they are a chance to experience life beyond Norden house, reconnect with the wider community, and enjoy moments that feel familiar and joyful.
We recently marked Remembrance Day in our Honeybee Tea Room. It was a special time for reflection as our residents shared wartime stories, sang songs and created poppy wreaths. Activities like baking and cooking have also brought our residents together, encouraging connection and creativity in the comfort of their own homes.
Andrea Barker, our Home Manager, shared why this programme is so important:
“Keeping physically and mentally active is essential for everyone, but particularly for people living with dementia. It can help improve mood, prevent falls and ease some of the challenges associated with the condition. Whether it’s a trip to Dales Farm or singing war songs over tea, these moments of joy, connection and community are what make a difference.”
“Our new programme will continue to offer opportunities for movement, socialisation and creativity, but most importantly, it will bring our residents out into the community so they can experience the things they loved when they were living in their own homes.”
Looking ahead, we have plenty to look forward to this winter, including visits from local schools to help us celebrate the festive season together.
